Hello. I am Edna Alford. Running has become an incredible outlet for me! It's an awesome stress reliever, gives my mind peace to think, space to find creative solutions, and allows me to feel alive and strong. I hope to run until the day comes when I can no longer run. Until then...happy running!
2012 Chattahoochee Smoochie 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run
Let's get our 2012 Race Year kicked off to a heart thumping start!! The 2012 2nd Annual Chattahoochee Smoochie has been set for Saturday, February 11th. The race will start and finish at 400 Park Street, Angus Gholson Nature Park. This park is located directly behind Chattahoochee Womens Club off of Morgan Street. The 5K course is a gorgeous trek through residential tree lined neighborhoods and crosses Main Street in two locations. A free 1 mile fun run will be also held for all children who'd like to participate! While your in town, don't forget to take a ride down the infamous Thrill Hill and visit some of their downtown businesses. Race division awards will be given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in each age group and to the overall male and female winner. Also, there will be a special award for the first couple who crosses the finish line together! Get your hearts REALLY racing this Valentine's Day with the Chattahoochee Smoochie 5K! Approximate Route of the course: This course is 3.1 miles, the online route needs a little tweaking but this route is correct as far as streets/paths. Starting point and ending point were hard to get exact on with this mapping tool.

Forks Over Knives - Getting back to the things that matter!
This past summer marked my three year anniversary since I started running. Since then, the things that took precedence in my to do list suddenly and quite drastically changed. I have bought and read numerous running books, ran in over thirty 5K's, ran four half marathons, one marathon, and have helped other groups raise money by directing and/or assisting in 5K's alongside with the Running Moms crew. It's been an adventure... and I have loved it.
Most recently, I have also started reading more books on nutrition and paying attention to the things I have seen and experienced around me. I have had my share of losses and the people I love, have had their share of losses. This past summer, a former student of mine, passed away due to complications from diabetes. She was supposed to be getting ready to enter the 8th grade. It hurts to know she is not here anymore, and that maybe just maybe if things had went a little differently, she would still be here. And then there was my childhood friend, who at 31 years old, died in her sleep from chronic heart disease. She was 7 months pregnant. Her and the baby were abruptly both gone forever.
That's why when I read The China Study and Food Matters, the things I read got my attention. Is it truly possible that those kinds of things could be prevented? Is it possible to reverse these illness even? And then most recently, the movie Forks Over Knives was released. Watching that movie brings all these things back to the forefront of my mind.
I encourage you to watch the movie and find out some things for yourself. It's too important not too. If it meant the future longetivity of your own children's lives.........would you watch it? If it meant you'd be around to celebrate your great grandchildren's birth or to live long enough (and healthy enough) to finish your bucket list...would you watch it? If it meant that you might save a life.......would you watch it?
It's worth the hour and a half to figure out if it was worth your while. And then figure out if it's worth your while to share what you've learned with someone else.
Live healthily, live to the fullest, run as hard as you can for as long as you can, make lifelong friends, and share with everyone you meet.

RACE DISCOUNT! Evangel 5K Saturday October 29th!
This is a shout out to all runners and walkers in the Marianna, Florida area. This coming Saturday, October 29th, Evangel Ministries will be sponsoring a 5K Walk/Run at Citizen's Lodge in Marianna, Florida. Race day registration starts at 7 a.m. and the race starts at 8 a.m. CST. If you are registering on race day, you can receive a $7.00 DISCOUNT by writing RUNNING MOMS across the top of your race day form (race day registration will be $15 versus $22)!!!!!

Riverfest 5K Race Results
Thanks to the runners who were able to make it out to the Riverfest 5K on September 3rd in Chattahoochee, Florida. It ended up being a very busy weekend for most of the folks in our area but we had a small crew of dedicated runners and friends who hung around town and ran this beautiful course. Riverfest 5K & River Run
Get ready for some rip roaring river adventure fun! Come run the inaugural Chattahoochee Riverfest 5K Run and then hang around for the rest of the day's events! To check out all the day's exciting events please visit www.riverfest-csc.org.

The 5K race will start and end at the river landing in Chattahoochee. Race participants will start out along a scenic dirt road portion that will then turn into pavement. The race course winds through a shady tree lined road that leads to the Chattahoochee Dam. Runners will take the road to the dam and turn around just past the Florida State line sign. This will be an "out and back" course that starts in Florida and takes runners just over the line as they step into Georgia to make the turn around. This course is a great one that runners will truly enjoy! Race day starts at 8:00 EST. Registration fee is $20.00 until August 26th and will be $25.00 after August 26th. Check back in a few days for race day registration form.

"The Good Race" 1st Annual Evangel Missions 5K Run/Walk
Mark your calendars for May 21, 2011 as Evangel Mission's prepares a good race for you! On Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. runners will have the opportunity to take part in a race that will be held at the Florida Caverns State Park. This course is absolutely beautiful! The race course starts and ends at Blue Hole within the state park. Race participants are invited to come out to the Caverns with their family as early as 2:00 p.m. that day to take part in some of the other race day festivities such as music and a hot dog cookout.

All race participants will need to let the guard know at the front gate that they are at the park for the race event and the rangers will let you in without a park fee. Pre-registration ends on May 14th. Be sure to print your RACE DAY FORM NOW and mail it in to the address listed on the form. T-shirts will be provided for all pre-registered runners and as long as supplies last for race day runners. Trophies will be given to the overall male and overall female and medallions to the 1st,2nd, and 3rd place winners in each age group.
There will also be a FREE 1 mile fun run for the kids that will start about 5:45.
If you are wishing to sign up race day, please note that pre-registration will end about 20 minutes before the start of the race. Come early!
This is going to be an awesome local race event that you don't want to miss! Come run the race and enjoy the beautiful state park!
Race Results for St. Patrick's Day Pirate Prowl 5K Run/Walk
March 12, 2011 was a beautiful day for a race in Sneads, Florida! We are so proud of all the participants and so very thankful to all of our race sponsors. SHS Project Graduation was able to raise $1354.00 dollars for project graduation night. Every cent of the money raised by the race participants and sponsors will go to the senior students in prizes and awards etc for Project Graduation night 2011.
Special thanks to SHS Band for coming out and performing the national anthem. They did an outstanding job! Also, thanks to SHS staff and Principal Laurence Pender for supporting this event and bringing a lot of people out to the race. Thanks to the parents that make up the Project Graduation committee for all their hard work and dedication to this event.
A huge, huge thank you to all of our VOLUNTEERS!!! No race event can be done without the selfless giving of these folks and their servant's heart. Thank you so incredibly much for all that each of you did!!
