Recently I read the book Born to Run. It is a really good book and if you can get through it without wanting to try chia seeds, barefoot running, and an eventual ultra-marathon I think that is great.
I became interested in running barefoot after reading the book and reading an article in Runner's World magazine. My feet, I think, are like most peoples...they do not see the light of day much. It has been a long time since I've gone anywhere barefoot. So I read online about a neat pair of shoes called Vibram Five Fingers. These are very minimilistic as far as shoes go. You will have to google them to see what I'm talking about. If you are like me, you just hate to go out and buy anything without knowing someone who has tried them first. Today I found the following blog site.
http://ramblingoutsidethebox.blogspot.com/2010/02/vibram-five-fingers-1200-miles-in.html
This site has a very interesting description of the runner's use of Vibram Five Fingers over approx. 1200 miles. And it lists quite a few resources for more information about the shoes. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to share this info. Who knows, maybe after reading all this, I might take the plunge and buy a pair. I'll be sure to update you here if I do!
Happy Running!

I've been a running mom for almost two years now. After having my second baby, running gave me a way to focus on myself and lose that baby weight. It has not only made me physically stronger, it has made me emotionally and mentally stronger too. All of these improvements make me a better wife and a better mom!

Bridgett, I enjoy wearing them from time to time. However, I still wear my other regular running shoes most of the time. I think vibrams are really great to wear to build up feet strength and to feel more foot freedom. As a new runner, I would caution buying them as my "main" running shoes, but I would buy them for easy training sessions or walking. In this way, you can strengthen your feet over time without too much stress on your feet all at once. Some people LOVE LOVE LOVE them and run in nothing else once they try them... so if you want to try them, they may be the niche for you too:)!

I swore I’d never wear vibram five fingers. We called them the vibram kso of Suck a few years ago and I was sure they were crazy. Friends, I’m here to tell you I was wrong. And I’m sorry. Here’s my story: I ran a marathon a few years ago. I got plantar fasciitis and couldn’t run after the marathon. I worked through that inflammation but by the time I was ready to run vibram FiveFingers Sprint again I had gained thirty pounds. Wham. Shin-splints. So I was a fat former runner with leg problems. The prognosis wasn’t good. So I tried a few things – the elliptical, weight training, losing some freaking weight – but the thing that saved me were these vibram five fingers shoes.

I love living, walking, running barefoot. Sometimes the weather just will not allow that. I own a pair of Vibram Five Fingers and LOVE them. Five of my seven children also wear them. My son just received his first pair and is running cross country and track, planning to wear his. Not many shoes are worth that $ investment, in my own barefoot opinion, but I will save and sacrifice elsewhere to keep the Vibrams for the family:O)

Thanks Mary! I can't wait to visit one of those stores and try out a pair! I know where a few of these stores are and have been there before such as Eagle Eye in Dothan and Kevin's in Tally! Went to both those stores around Christmas looking for hunting boots for a Christmas present.
