In addition, we will hold a "barefoot" running award division! Runners who wish to run the race barefoot or in Vibram Five Fingers, will compete for an additional award in that division. A special award will be given to the overall male and overall female "barefoot" runner. As a special bonus, all race participants will recieve a ticket into both Friday and Saturday's events. To attend Friday night's events, participants would need to come pick up their race packet on Friday evening at Compass Lake in the Hills Lodge.  A time confirmation will be forthcoming on pre-race day packet pickup.  Saturday morning race packet pick ups will be getting their ticket into Saturday's events which feature the band Shenandoah.  We are looking forward to seeing you at the First Annual Barefoot Music Festival and Barefoot 5K!

Hello. I am Edna Alford.  Running has become an incredible outlet for me! It's an awesome stress reliever, gives my mind peace to think, space to find creative solutions, and allows me to feel alive and strong. I hope to run until the day comes when I can no longer run. Until then...happy running!

Hi Betty! It's pretty firm sand. A group of us ran this race route this week and I commented to the group on how nice and firm the sand was. It was firmer than I expected and very easy to run on.

    Hello,
I was just wondering if the sandy parts of the run are considered soft sand or more of a firm clay type?

Hi Melissa and Melanie! I will post the link now:

    http://www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=362410

I will also post to Active soon and on this site in a more visible location. After the final routing of the course, it looks like most of the course is going to be paved. However, there will be 2 loops that will be "off road" and one nice hilly surprise before the last off road loop. Take a look at it from the link. It's a nice course and it should be tons of fun!

    Hi Edna!
Is the course map for Barefoot going to be on Active.com?

Hi Melissa! A portion of the course will be paved, but most of it will be sand. We will post the race map on this site by Friday...stay tuned:)!

Just wondering... is the Barefoot 5k course off road? I'm a V.F.F. runner but I just can't do pavement with them. Thanks.
